Specific Relief Act
The Specific Relief Act helps students understand how civil rights may be protected or enforced through remedies other than ordinary monetary compensation. It introduces important ideas such as recovery of possession, specific performance, rectification, rescission, cancellation, declaratory relief and injunctions. The subject becomes much easier when students first understand the underlying right and then identify the remedy that may respond to its violation. For that reason, it connects closely with Law of Contract, Equity Law & Trust Act and later Civil Procedure.
Students may begin with Easy Book Understanding (EBU) for ৳950 / USD 9 to organise the Act, distinguish different forms of relief and understand when each remedy becomes legally relevant.
The Full Course for ৳4,650 / USD 45 develops deeper interpretation, problem analysis, written preparation and examination readiness. The corresponding EBU is included within the Full Course.
Learn What Remedy Fits a Particular Civil Wrong
Specific Relief becomes easier when students stop treating every remedy as an isolated topic. The central question is usually practical: a person claims a legal right has been violated, so what form of judicial relief may appropriately protect or enforce that right?
This approach helps students distinguish between restoring possession, compelling performance of an obligation, correcting or cancelling an instrument, obtaining a declaration of legal status or right, and preventing harmful conduct through an injunction. It also creates a strong bridge between substantive rights and the procedural subjects studied later in the LL.B journey.
Organise the Major Forms of Specific Relief
Analyse a Specific Relief Problem in Four Steps
A claim for specific relief rarely stands completely alone. Questions about contractual obligations connect with Law of Contract, while disputes involving possession or property may later connect with Transfer of Property Act. Once a claim reaches court, students also need to understand Civil Procedure and Law of Evidence to see how rights, facts, proof and remedies operate together.
A Strong Legal Claim Requires the Right Relief
In civil litigation, identifying a legal right is only the beginning. A claimant must also understand what relief is actually being sought and whether that relief responds properly to the problem. A dispute over possession, an unperformed agreement, a disputed instrument and a threatened interference may require very different forms of legal response.
Studying the Specific Relief Act therefore develops an important professional habit: do not begin with the remedy you remember most easily. Begin with the facts, identify the right affected, examine the nature of the violation, and then determine the legally appropriate relief.
Read a Dispute as a Sequence of Legal Questions
Connect Substantive Remedy with Pleading and Drafting
Knowing a remedy in theory is different from presenting a claim properly. Students later studying Civil & Criminal Drafting will see why the facts, legal basis and prayer for relief must work together. Specific Relief is therefore an important bridge between academic legal knowledge and the ability to understand how a civil claim is structured in practice.
A Remedy Depends on Facts that Can Be Established
Agreements, deeds, possession records, notices, communications and other documents may become important when a court is asked to grant specific relief. LSL therefore encourages students to move beyond memorising provisions and ask a second question: what evidence would establish the facts required for this relief? This prepares learners for deeper study of Law of Evidence and practical case analysis.
Study the Act through a Structured Digital Sequence
Through LiDia Edu , enrolled students can work through the subject in smaller connected units rather than approaching the Act as an isolated list of provisions.
AI-supported learning tools may be used to clarify difficult terminology, compare concepts or generate additional questions for study. Legal propositions should still be verified against the relevant authoritative legal material rather than relying on AI output alone.
Observe How Legal Questions Develop beyond the Textbook
Students interested in practical legal learning can also follow DH Sakib's Legal Journey , where legal study, research, case observation and writing are developed together. This wider approach reflects LSL's objective of helping learners understand not only what a legal rule says, but how legal problems are identified, researched and communicated.
